Abstract
‘This manual on early identification and intervention is one of several resources developed in the Directorate: Inclusion and Special Schools to improve educators’ competency in dealing with the diverse and complex field of barriers to learning and development. In doing so, it will promote the notion, that educators are the first line of defense in identifying and addressing barriers. It also supports the essential fact that they are a critical part of support services in the education system. This manual is by no means a comprehensive resource but rather a piece of architecture that will hopefully improve over time as information, hints, strategies and interventions increase through the critical inputs of the practitioners on the ground.’ [p. 3]
