Abstract
‘This book tells true stories about real people in South Africa who are dedicated to changing the way we educate our children – all children. The stories are about how the South African Department of Education is changing an unfair, unjust education system into a system that gives equal opportunities to everybody. The stories tell about how the Department of Education has changed the policies of education to make sure that all people can go to school and learn. They tell about how national, provincial and district education officials, schools, parents, learners, community organizations, other government departments, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and universities have come together to begin the work of making sure that our schools and other education centers are places where all learners feel welcome and happy, and where all learners are taught and cared for.’ [Introduction]
