Abstract
The early years of life are a particularly sensitive period for survival, growth and psychosocial development. If the contexts in which young children grow up are not supportive, their later participation and inclusion in society may be severely compromised. This chapter provides indicators, measure and data sources for monitoring the well-being of young children, including the accessibility and quality of service provision for children under school-going age, 0-5 years. The main goal of this chapter is to draw on findings pertaining to supports for early development in the home environment and ECD facilities to provide indicators that can be utlised for a number of purposes.
