Abstract
This paper presents the evidence for programmes that are effective in improving child outcomes in the years 0-4. The focus is on populations, outcomes and interventions identified in the National Integrated Plan (NIP) for Early Childhood Development (ECD). The focus is on research that has implications for the design of effective interventions to improve child development in vulnerable populations with the ultimate goal of ensuring that they have a sound physical and psychological foundation for health and development
